History

Supreme is an American skateboarding and clothing lifestyle brand founded in April 1994 in New York City by James Jebbia. Supreme opened their first store in an old office space on Lafayette Street in Lower Manhattan in April 1994. Before opening more U.S. locations the brand opened three shops in Japan in 1998. The first Japanese location opened in the Daikanyama neighborhood of Tokyo, followed by the Osaka location, and then the Fukuoka location which still is the smallest Supreme shop in the world. In 2004 Supreme opened a second U.S. location in Los Angeles, California on North Fairfax Avenue that was almost double the size of the first and even included an indoor skate bowl. After that, Supreme expanded internationally in 2011 to London, then to Paris, France in 2016.

Besides having their own fashion designs, Supreme also sells brands like Vans, Nike SB, and Thrasher at their stores. Instead of selling products year round, Supreme has Spring Summer (SS) and Fall Winter (FW) collections that release respective to their names.

Supreme also has their own skate team which can partially attribute to their success and popularity in skater culture and streetwear culture.

In addition to its clothing and accessories, Supreme is also known for its art and music collaborations. The brand has worked with artists such as Takashi Murakami, Jeff Koons, and Damien Hirst, and has also released albums by musicians such as My Bloody Valentine and Aphex Twin. Supreme's collaborations are often highly sought after by collectors, and can sell for large sums on the secondary market.
