Origins of Off White

The streetwear and designer brand, Off White, was founded by Virgil Abloh in 2013. Off White is based in Milan, Italy and boasts 15 other storefronts around the world. The reason Off White is based in Milan is because Virgil wanted products to be Italian made and high quality but an American aesthetic.

Virgil White: Designs Behind the Brand

Although a different luxury brand, Virgil Abloh became the first African American to head the menswear department of Louis Vuitton in the brand's history in March of 2018. Part of this decision was due to Virgil's ability to stand out and create new and original clothing/brand decisions that were recognizable around the world. One design that helped put Virgil on the map was his easily recognizable diagonal zebra stripe pattern. His second design was placing almost everything in quotes such like "LOGO" or "SHOELACES". The latter is very rarely seen by any other designer because of the association with Virgil and Off White and his originality in its creation.

Off White Collaborations

Off White also boasts many highly sought after shoe collaborations with Nike's Jordan 1, Jordan 2, Air Force 1, and dunks. Typically, collabs between Off White and Nike are very popular and resell for very high prices. The Future of Off White

Sadly, Virgil Abloh unexpectedly passed away in November of 2021 from cardiac angiosarcoma. His battle was not known to the public until the day of his passing, but his ideas and visions have continued to live on.
